Verizon LTE Phones Not Compatible With AT&T LTE Network

AT&T vs Verizon

AT&T vs Verizon

If you have a Verizon LTE phone and plan on using it on AT&T’s LTE network when available, think again. Brenda Raney a spokesperson at Verizon has confirmed that the new LTE network runs on SIM cards in the same way as the old GSM network. This being said LTE phone owners cannot just switch out SIM cards to use another carriers network.

While using the same 700 MHz band the two carriers use different parts or it. AT&T uses the lower half of the band at 704MHz to 746 MHz and Verizon uses the upper half at 746 MHz to 787 MHz. We aren’t sure why they are setup this way but it is what it is.

At some point we expect manufacturers to get involved and have the two carriers agree on a band that all phones can use. There seems to be no beneficial reason for these two major carriers to have this restriction.
