Backup and Restore the Barnes & Noble Nook Color Tablet

Friday, May 4th, 2012

We all enjoy flashing custom ROMs, dual-booting, and just general hacking that can lead to everything but turning our tablets into paper weights. In the case of the Nook Color you can easily backup the stock ROM and restore it as needed to avoid destroying the tablet completely. You will need to use the ClockworkMod bootable micro SD card for the process but other than that its very easy to do.

How to Backup the Nook Color:

  1. Create a Bootable micro SD card with ClockworkMod (Instructions Here)
  2. Insert the micro SD Card into the Nook Color and Turn it on
  3. Once at the CWM menu use volume keys to navigate to “Backup/Restore” select with n
  4. Navigate the same way to “Backup”, press n to select
  5. Don’t worry if you see “No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext”. Its not an error
  6. Once complete eject the micro SD card
  7. Choose “Reboot System Now”, press n to select
  8. Your Nook will reboot as Normal and your Backup is on the SD card.

How to Restore the Nook Color from Backup:

  1. Insert your Bootable micro SD Card into the Nook Color and Turn it on
  2. Once at the CWM menu use volume keys to navigate to “Backup/Restore” select with n
  3. Navigate the same way to “Restore”, press n to select
  4. Once complete eject the micro SD card
  5. Choose “Reboot System Now”, press n to select
  6. Your Nook will reboot as Normal and your Nook Color will be restored.

As always if you run into any issues feel free to ask questions here. Also if you have anything to add let us know that as well.

Thanks for the videos and the instructions. I’d like to install CWM10 on my Nook Tablet 8GB. Where can I find the correct ROM to use in the install? Are all the other instructions the same?
