Soak testing started on the Motorola Xoom a few days ago and it seems that the update to Android 4.1.1 has gone smooth enough to move forward. What this means is that anyone not involved in soak tests of the Motorola Xoom will be getting the update in the next week or so. You can see from the first video below that the install process is quite easy and has no issues that we have found.
Added Features with the Xoom Jelly Bean Update
- Google Now
- Updated notification screen
- Improved voice search
- Adaptive keyboard that improves over time to help predict the user’s next word
- New revised settings menu
- Added a search option to the YouTube app
- “Accounts & Sync” is now located in the accounts group
As you can see in the video above the Motorola Xoom running Android 4.1.1 runs very smooth and has everything you would expect with the Jelly Bean update besides Chrome. Even though Chrome is missing you can easily download it from the Google Play store. Be expecting the Android 4.1.1 update to your Motorola Xoom very soon. This soak test is only announced for the US Wifi only version of the Motorola Xoom so we can assume that those will be the only devices to get the update right after testing. This being said we have no information on Global release of the update or 3G and 4G models either. We will let you know when it actually starts pushing out officially.
UPDATE: As of the 26th the Motorola Xoom Android 4.1.1 update to build JRO03H has started to officially roll out to devices. If you haven’t already had a chance to get Jelly Bean goodness on your Xoom now is the time. There is still no word on Global and carrier models update schedule.
