LG Optimus S Gingerbread Update Features:
While the update is starting April 4th it will not hit all devices until April 21st. If you don’t get the OTA (over the air) update popup you can always manually check for it. To manually check for the update go to “settings -> system updates”. Please let us know when you get the update and how you like it along with your location so others can be aware of its rollout.
We haven’t heard much about the Motorola Cliq 2 getting its long awaited Android 2.3 Gingerbread update since nice a leak last summer, until now. It looks like Motorola has already started testing the new software on the Cliq 2 and is now looking for testers via their support forums. They will select 1000 testers to receive the Cliq 2 update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread and if everything goes well they will release the update within a week of testing.
We are pleased to see that the device is being updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread although you have to wonder why some devices take so long to get updates to an older OS. This being said we can assume this will be the last update for the Cliq 2 unless maintenance releases are created for fixes here and there.
Finally AT&T’s LG Phoenix is getting the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update to join the ranks of most Android devices. The downside right now is that the update is not being pushed OTA (over the air). Don’t let this get you down though, getting Gingerbread on your LG Phoenix is not a hard process.

Apparently the update will not be pushed over the air and will require a PC with Windows on it, sorry Mac users. The download link that AT&T gives currently does not work but will be able to be found below.

There have been reports from HTC Desire HD users that they are getting the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread update with HTC Sense 3.0. These reports have all been from users with unbranded devices and we aren’t aware of any carriers pushing this update yet.
The newer HTC Desire S got this update back in October so we have no reason to believe that this update is not actually being pushed. We have to give HTC its due for updating their older models as they have recently.
Confirmed updates in the Netherlands, Serbia, Cyprus, Vodafone UK, Malta. These have been reported although does not mean that only these areas are getting the update nor does it mean just because you live there that you will.
If you get the update please let us know where you are and whether the device is unbranded or not. Thanks.
Finally those users of Verizon’s Samsung Fascinate will be getting the update from Android 2.2 Froyo to Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. This OTA (over the air) update has already started pushing out.
