*Note: The update will remove the promotional Angry Birds pre-load from the device. If you’ve started playing the game, you would need to re-download from the Marketplace and start from the beginning of the game.

Apparently the update will not be pushed over the air and will require a PC with Windows on it, sorry Mac users. The download link that AT&T gives currently does not work but will be able to be found below.

Please let us know how the update goes and if you notice anything still not working or anything not mentioned above. Good luck and happy updating.

Android 2.3 Debuted in the AT&T Portfolio with HTC Status, All Post-paid Android Smartphones Released in 2011 Planned to Receive 2.3 Upgrade

DALLAS, July 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ –

Key Facts

AT&T* confirmed that upgrades to the Android™ 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform are planned for all post-paid Android smartphones already introduced this year.
Motorola ATRIX™ 4G users will receive an update to Android 2.3 beginning today and HTC Inspire™ 4G users will receive the update in the coming weeks.
Motorola ATRIX 4G update will also provide the ability to download applications from third-party stores.
HTC Status™ arrived in stores July 17, the first AT&T smartphone running Android 2.3.

Upgrade Details

Customers who purchased an Android smartphone from AT&T introduced in 2011 can expect to receive an update to Android 2.3. All of these devices are planned to be upgraded from Android 2.2 to Android 2.3, also referred to as Gingerbread. In addition, Samsung Captivate™ owners will be able to upgrade to Gingerbread.

Delivery methods will vary by device. Whenever possible, upgrades are delivered over-the-air (OTA), however in some cases the size of the file needed to install the update will require the user to connect via Wi-Fi or connect the phone to a PC to install the update. Factors such as manufacturer-defined software and other device performance improvements result in each device requiring a separate update which will vary in timing.

Beginning today and continuing over the next few weeks, Motorola ATRIX 4G users will be prompted to install the update. To download the update, users must be connected via Wi-Fi. In August, HTC Inspire 4G users will be notified that the update is available and can be downloaded when connected to a Wi-Fi network. AT&T smartphone users can access at any one of the company’s more than 26,000 Wi-Fi hotspots at no cost.

The AT&T smartphones planned for a Gingerbread update are:

HTC Inspire™ 4G
LG Phoenix™
Motorola ATRIX™ 4G
Pantech Crossover™
Samsung Captivate™ 4G
Samsung Infuse™ 4G

One of the Most popular phones this year is the Samsung Infuse 4G.  This is not only one of the most requested searches on our site but the instructions to root this phone is one of the most popular articles.  This being said its time to give it a true review.

Hardware
The structure of the Infuse is by far superior to its Charge counterpart.  It has not only a superior shell but seems to feel much stronger in your hands.  The Samsung Infuse 4G is 8.9mm thin at the top hitting 9.24mm at the bottom making it a very thin phone.  It comes with a large 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus display which makes the phones size 132mm tall and 71mm wide but only weighs in at 131grams(.29lb) making it a very light phone for its size. The Infuse also holds a 1750mAh battery with a microSD card slot hidden within the battery compartment.  Internally the phone supports about 16GB in three partitions.

Display
As mentioned before the Infuse has a 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus display with a resolution of 800 x 480.  While the screen size difference running at 800 x 480 seems to decrease the picture quality slightly, its brightness and contrast make up for the slight change.  We did however notice that when turning the brightness down the screen looks a bit pixelated.  You will have to keep the brightness up to keep quality.

Performance
Some others have stated that the battery made them through a full day although we noticed with casual use this holds true although demanding use it will keep up around 12 hours.  When using the Infuse as a hotspot it only lasted about 3 hours before the battery gave up.  We noticed even though it is considered AT&T’s fastest phone on their 21Mbps HSPA+ network we only received about a 1MB download and 200KB upload difference between it and the Atrix 4G (the Infuse was at around 4.2 down and 1.1 up).  With the phones speed off the network, it didn’t seem to have great improvement over its predecessors although was fast and lagless.

Camera
One of the more impressive features of the Infuse is the 8 megapixel camera that kept up with our 12MP Cannon Powershot almost perfectly.  Needless to say pictures were clean, bright and truly 720p.  We really didn’t expect any less from a Samsung phone though.  The camera autofocuses when filming allowing you to pay attention to your recording and not the phone itself.

Overall we love the phone and feel that Samsung while not over doing it has improved on its product offering and that the Infuse 4G is the best phone offered by them at this time.  This being said the Charge seems to be only slightly behind it and it still can’t compete with the Atrix 4G that is being advertised along side it.
