Welcome to Android Advice and Tutorials.

If you got your hands on the Nexus 4 before Google Play ran out then you will be happy to know you can root it as soon as it hits your hands. XDA Member HQRaja has given us a root method that you can use on the Nexus 4 right out of the box. The root process is pretty easy and should be simple enough for just about anyone to use. The full root instructions can be found below.

How to Root the Nexus 4 (with required files):

Download Fastboot if you don’t already have it (Download Link)
Download CWM Recovery (Download Link)
Unzip the recovery file to your fastboot folder
Enable USB Debugging “settings -> developer options”
Connect Nexus 4 to Computer via USB
Install Nexus 4 Drivers (Download Link)
Download SuperSU with Busybox (Download Link)
transfer SuperSU/Busybox package to phones internal SDcard
Open Command Prompt and navigate to your fastboot folder
Reboot into Bootloader (fastboot)
- adb reboot bootloader
Unlock the Bootloader (this will wipe all user data on the device)
- fastboot oem unlock
Boot from the CWM image downloaded earlier
- fastboot boot cwm-recovery-mako.img
Select the recovery option from your device using volume to navigate and power to select.
Once in recovery you can make a backup if you choose (recommended)
From recovery flash the SuperSU and busybox package downloaded earlier
Clear your cache and dalvik cache (up to you but recommended
Reboot your Nexus 4 and Congrats on a Rooted Device!

NOTE: if you get the error “stem/bin/sh: su: can’t execute: Permission denied” it means you need to boot from the unsecured boot.img first so go back to that step and try again.

The Photon Q has an easy one click root method available thanks to XDA member OP. The one click root method is called “motofail2go” and is currently available to use on Windows machines only. If you have a Motorola Photon Q and want to root it to gain access to everything that Android has to offer the instructions are below.

Motorola Photon Q Root Instructions:

Install the Drivers for your Photon Q
Download and Extract motofail2go (Download Link)
Put your Phone in USB Debugging Mode
Navigate to your motofail2go extracted earlier
Run “”run.bat” as administrator
Follow the instructions in the batch file
Congrats your Photon Q is rooted!

There has been only one issue that very few users have noticed where the device will give you an error “run-as: Package ‘com.motorola.bug2go’ is unknown”. If you get this error printed by the batch file then you will need to wipe your data and cache then start the process over.

The Atrix HD has an easy one click root method available thanks to XDA member OP. The one click root method is called “motofail2go” and is currently available to use on Windows machines only. If you have a Motorola Atrix HD and want to root it to gain access to everything that Android has to offer the instructions are below.

Motorola Atrix HD Root Instructions:

Install the Drivers for your Atrix HD
Download and Extract motofail2go (Download Link)
Put your Phone in USB Debugging Mode
Navigate to your motofail2go extracted earlier
Run “”run.bat” as administrator
Follow the instructions in the batch file
Congrats your Atrix HD is rooted!

The Droid RAZR M has an easy one click root method available thanks to XDA member OP. The one click root method is called “motofail2go” and is currently available to use on Windows machines only. If you have a Motorola Droid RAZR M and want to root it to gain access to everything that Android has to offer the instructions are below.

Motorola Droid RAZR M Root Instructions:

Install the Drivers for your Droid RAZR M
Download and Extract motofail2go (Download Link)
Put your Phone in USB Debugging Mode
Navigate to your motofail2go extracted earlier
Run “”run.bat” as administrator
Follow the instructions in the batch file
Congrats your Droid RAZR M is rooted!

The root process for the HTC One X until now has been a long process but thanks to XDA member sparkym3 there is a one click root available for the popular new device. The HTC One X is HTC’s newest flagship phone that combines power and a beautiful display. Rooting your HTC One X is at your own risk and Android Advice in no way is responsible for your device.

One Click Root Instructions HTC One X:

Download and install HTC Mobile Phone Drivers
- HTC One X Driver Windows 32-bit (Download Link)
- HTC One X Driver Windows 64-bit (Download Link)
Download root the Exploit (Download Link)
Extract root.zip where you can find it on your Computer
Enable USB Debugging on your HTC One X
- “Settings -> Developer options -> USB debugging”
Connect your HTC One X to your Computer via USB
Run the root.bat on your Windows PC
- or root-linux.sh for Linux
- or root-mac.sh for Max OSX
Be patient for the device to reboot a few times
Congrats your HTC One X is Rooted!

Rooting the HTC One X can be done by following a few simple steps. This method also works on the HTC One S. By rooting your HTC One X or One S you can easily install custom ROM’s and completely take control of your device. Take note that rooting your device will cause a wipe of your personal settings and apps but will keep your images and videos in tact. The instructions to root your HTC One X and One S here are Windows only.

Unlock the HTC One X and HTC One S Bootloader:

Enable USB Debugging Mode “Settings -> Developer Options”
Connect your HTC One X(S) to a PC via USB
Choose “Charge Only” as your connection type
Install the correct driver for your computer:
- HTC One X Driver Windows 32-bit (Download Link)
- HTC One X Driver Windows 64-bit (Download Link)
Download and extract OneXRoot.zip (Download Link)
Open up a command prompt and navigate to the folder you just unzipped
- Type “adb devices”, press enter
Go to HTCDev.com and login (or register if haven’t)(Site Link)
Click “Unlock Bootloader”
Choose either “HTC One X” or “All other supported devices”
Click “Begin Unlock Bootloader”
Click on “yes”
Agree with terms and click “Proceed to Unlock Directions”
Scroll down and click “Proceed to Step 5″
Scroll down and click “Proceed to Step 8″
Now grab your device and hold the volume down and power button
After about 20 seconds your HTC One should be in Bootloader mode
Choose “Fastboot” and power button to select
Go back to your command prompt
- Type “fastboot oem get_identifier_token”, press enter
You should now see some random code that makes little sense
Right click the code and select “Mark”
now highlight code from the “<<< Now go back to HTCDev and paste that code there and click “Submit”
You should now see “Token Submitted Successfully!”
HTC has now sent you an attachment via email with your unlock code
Download “Unlock_code.bin” from the email to your OneXRoot folder
Go back to your command prompt
- Type “fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin”, press enter
Go to your Phone and hit volume up and then power to reboot
Your bootloader is now unlocked!

The Root Instructions after the HTC One X (S) Bootloader is unlocked:

Once the above is complete keep your phone connected to PC
Change connection type to “Disk Drive”
Copy “CWN-SuperSU-v.87.zip” from your OneXRoot folder
Paste the file in your HTC One storage
Go back to bootloader “hold volume down and power for 20 seconds”
After in bootloader choose “Recovery” and press power to select
Choose “Install zip from SDcard”
Choose “zip from sdcard”
Choose the “CWN-SuperSU-v.87.zip” file you placed earlier
Confirm by selecting “Yes”
After it completes choose the “reboot” option
When your phone reboots find and open the SuperSU app
Update the SU binaries
Congrats your HTC One X or HTC One S is Rooted!

Rooting your Nook Color will give you full control over the device and its features, much like jail breaking an iPhone. Essentially, it lifts the limitations put on the Nook Color by Barnes & Noble allowing it to operate like any other Android tablet. A Nook Color which has been rooted can run apps and programs that are otherwise incompatible with its system on the stock ROM. The process while looking long is very easy if you follow all directions exactly.

Instructions to Root the Nook Color on Software Version 1.4.1 & 1.4.2:

Make sure you have registered your Nook or Risk losing association with B&N
Download all B&N content to be sure its not lost after Root
Create a bootable ClockworkMod 3.2.0.1 microSD Card (Instructions Here)
Download “Manual Nooter 5.02.19.zip” (Download Link)
Copy the “Manual Nooter” zip file to the root of your micro SD card
Unplug and turn off your Nook Color if connected to PC or on
Insert the SD card with required files into the Nook Color
Turn on the Nook Color and it should boot directly into recovery
Select “Install zip from SD card” (volume down and n to select)
Select “choose zip from SD card (volume down and n to select)
Find the Manual Nooter zip file and select it (volume buttons and n to select)
Confirm on the next screen navigating and selecting the same way
Wait for the process to complete and remove your micro SD card
Reboot the Nook Color (if you get an error on first boot just reboot again)
Congrats your Nook Color is Rooted!

This is the One Click root method for the Motorola Photon 4G. Previously the best way to root the Photon was using webtop then there was a way through ADB, now its as easy as opening a batch file and waiting for the phone to reboot a few times. With or without knowledge of ADB or even Android at all you can easily root the Photon 4G in a few prep steps and double clicking a file.

Root the Photon 4G on Android 2.3.4 (One Click Root):

Download and Extract the Motorola One Click Exploit (Download Link)
Put your Photon 4G in USB Debugging mode (Settings -> Applications -> Development)
Plug your Photon into the PC via USB
Open the folder containing the Exploit you downloaded
Run the file MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe
Wait patiently for 3 reboots (the window will tell you when complete)
Congrats your Motorola Photon 4G is Rooted!

Basically the HTC Inspire is more complicated version of the European Desire. Rooting the Inspire is actually a very easy process although it can be overwhelming to look at when your reading it from the developer (let’s face it he is smarter when it comes to this than we are or we wouldn’t need his method to root). It is best to make sure you do this on a PC that does not and has not ever been associated with any mobile devices to ensure everything goes smooth.

Pre-Requisites to Root the HTC Inspire with HackAce:

Disable Virus and Malware protection on your PC
Make sure anything connected via USB is disabled (or unplugged)
Make sure HTC Sync and drivers are removed completely.

How to Root the HTC Inspire easily with HackAce:

Download and Extract Hackace (Download Link)
Install the drivers from the HackAce files you downloaded
Enable USB Debugging Mode on your Inspire (settings -> applications -> development)
Make sure Inspire is in Charge only mode by default when plugged in (settings -> connect to pc)
Connect your Phone to your PC via USB
Run “hack-ace-xph.cmd” as Administrator

What happends next?
Basically HackAce will move the required files to your HTC Inspire and temporarily root the device. This will then turn your SDcard into a goldcard, set radio s-off and set SuperCID. As a bonus it will also remove the SIMLOCK during this process and it will install ClockworkMod Recovery and perm root the Inspire. Last it will Install Superuser for root priveledge management. Your Inspire will reboot several times during the root process and is normal.

The root method for the Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX on OSX or Linux is a one command process created by Dan Rosenberg that requires no knowledge of ADB to complete. If you are not an Android expert these instructions to root the RAZR on a MAC or Linux machine are perfect for you.

How to Root the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX (Linux / OSX):

Download and extract the Exploit (Download Link)
Put your RAZR (MAXX) in USB Debugging Mode “settings -> applications -> development”
Plug your RAZR (MAXX) into your Computer via USB
Make sure your device is in “Charge Only” mode
Open the directory you extracted the exploit into from Terminal
Run the “run.sh” file
Congrats your Droid RAZR (MAXX) is Rooted!
