If you got your hands on the Nexus 4 before Google Play ran out then you will be happy to know you can root it as soon as it hits your hands. XDA Member HQRaja has given us a root method that you can use on the Nexus 4 right out of the box. The root process is pretty easy and should be simple enough for just about anyone to use. The full root instructions can be found below.

  1. Download Fastboot if you don’t already have it (Download Link)
  2. Download CWM Recovery (Download Link)
  3. Unzip the recovery file to your fastboot folder
  4. Enable USB Debugging “settings -> developer options”
  5. Connect Nexus 4 to Computer via USB
  6. Install Nexus 4 Drivers (Download Link)
  7. Download SuperSU with Busybox (Download Link)
  8. transfer SuperSU/Busybox package to phones internal SDcard
  9. Open Command Prompt and navigate to your fastboot folder
  10. Reboot into Bootloader (fastboot)
    • adb reboot bootloader
  11. Unlock the Bootloader (this will wipe all user data on the device)
    • fastboot oem unlock
  12. Boot from the CWM image downloaded earlier
    • fastboot boot cwm-recovery-mako.img
  13. Select the recovery option from your device using volume to navigate and power to select.
  14. Once in recovery you can make a backup if you choose (recommended)
  15. From recovery flash the SuperSU and busybox package downloaded earlier
  16. Clear your cache and dalvik cache (up to you but recommended
  17. Reboot your Nexus 4 and Congrats on a Rooted Device!

NOTE: if you get the error “stem/bin/sh: su: can’t execute: Permission denied” it means you need to boot from the unsecured boot.img first so go back to that step and try again.

motorola photon q one click root

The Photon Q has an easy one click root method available thanks to XDA member OP. The one click root method is called “motofail2go” and is currently available to use on Windows machines only. If you have a Motorola Photon Q and want to root it to gain access to everything that Android has to offer the instructions are below.

Motorola Photon Q Root Instructions:

  1. Install the Drivers for your Photon Q
  2. Download and Extract motofail2go (Download Link)
  3. Put your Phone in USB Debugging Mode
  4. Navigate to your motofail2go extracted earlier
  5. Run “”run.bat” as administrator
  6. Follow the instructions in the batch file
  7. Congrats your Photon Q is rooted!

There has been only one issue that very few users have noticed where the device will give you an error “run-as: Package ‘com.motorola.bug2go’ is unknown”. If you get this error printed by the batch file then you will need to wipe your data and cache then start the process over.

How to Root the Google Nexus 7

The first thing that most Android users ask is how do I root my nice new device, well root access is already available on the Google Nexus 7. There are a few steps that need to be completed to gain root access on the Nexus 7 although nothing is too difficult. Below are the detailed instructions and resources you will need to gain root access on your Nexus 7.

How to Root the Google Nexus 7 Tablet:

  1. First Unlock the Bootloader (Instructions Here)
  2. Second install CWM Recovery (Instructions Here)
  3. Download JB-SuperSU.zip (Download Link)
  4. Place the JB-SuperSU.zip file on the Nexus 7 SDcard
  5. Power off your Nexus 7
  6. Hold power + vole up + vole down to get into recovery
  7. You should see the CWM logo and a menu
  8. From the Main Menu select “install zip from sdcard”
  9. Then select “choose zip from sdcard” and select the JB-SuperSU file
  10. Confirm and let it finish
  11. When back to the menu select “reboot system now”
  12. Congrats your Nexus 7 is Rooted on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean!

This is the One Click root method for the Motorola Photon 4G. Previously the best way to root the Photon was using webtop then there was a way through ADB, now its as easy as opening a batch file and waiting for the phone to reboot a few times. With or without knowledge of ADB or even Android at all you can easily root the Photon 4G in a few prep steps and double clicking a file.

Root the Photon 4G on Android 2.3.4 (One Click Root):

  1. Download and Extract the Motorola One Click Exploit (Download Link)
  2. Put your Photon 4G in USB Debugging mode (Settings -> Applications -> Development)
  3. Plug your Photon into the PC via USB
  4. Open the folder containing the Exploit you downloaded
  5. Run the file MotorolaOneClickRoot.exe
  6. Wait patiently for 3 reboots (the window will tell you when complete)
  7. Congrats your Motorola Photon 4G is Rooted!

HTC Super Tool v3 for the HTC Inspire

There are a few ways to root he HTC Inspire 4G floating around but most of them are very complicated and the average user can’t use them until now. There is a tool that has been created (not by us) that will allow you to truly root your HTC Inspire with one click. This root method was created by frigid a member of acsyndicate and works on many HTC phones but our focus here is the HTC Inspire.

How to One Click Root the HTC Inspire on Gingerbread 2.3.3:

  1. Install the HTC Inspire Drivers
  2. Enable USB Debugging on your device
  3. Plug your phone into your PC via USB
  4. Download and Unzip the Root tool (Download Link)
  5. Find the Files you unzipped and click “SuperTool.exe”
  6. Follow the steps Required for Root (continue for Bootloader Unlock)
  7. Congrats you have Rooted your HTC Inspire!

While we have not tested this method yet we would love any input from those of you who try it out. We have had others report that using this tool gives permanent root to the HTC Inspire.

We have ordered an Inspire that should be here early next week for us to test and refine this method. If you test it now please let us know anything we should add here and if you want to wait for us to test it out then the instructions should be updated by the end of next week.

Motorola Droid XYBOARD Tablet

There is a developer named Dan Rosenberg that has been releasing roots left and right for Android devices and now added to that list is the Motorola Droid XYBOARD. The process to root the Motorola XYBOARD is very easy and requires one click.

One Click Root files for the Motorola XYBOARD:

  1. Download and Unzip the Root Files
  2. Windows Version: (Download Link)
  3. Linux Version: (Download Link)
  4. Put your XYBOARD in USB Debugging Mode “Settings -> Applications -> Development”
  5. Connect device to PC via USB
  6. Navigate to the location you unzipped the files above
  7. Run “run.bat” (or run.sh on linux) and follow any instructions if any
  8. Congrats your XYBOARD is rooted!

Root the Motorola Atrix 4G Running 4.5.141

After updating your Motorola Atrix 4G to software version 4.5.141 you will lose root access. For those of you want to root your Motorola Atrix 4G after updating to build 4.5.141 this is how you do it.

Keep in mind that when typing in the commands during the rooting process you will leave out the quotes.

Instructions to root Atrix 4G running Gingerbread on 4.5.141:

  1. Download and Extract Fastboot Files to your C: drive (Download Link)
  2. Connect your phone to the computer via USB
  3. Put your phone in fastboot mode (restart phone holding volume down button)
  4. Open a command prompt and navigate to C:/moto-fastboot-win32
  5. type “moto-fastboot.exe flash preinstall preinstall.img” press enter
  6. Press “Vol Up” to initiate fastboot protocol
  7. type “moto-fastboot.exe reboot” press enter
  8. Your phone should reboot, wait for it to come back up
  9. type “adb shell” press enter (to restart the shell)
  10. type “/preinstall/dosu” press enter
  11. If step 10 fails type “/preinstall/su” instead and hit enter
  12. type “/bin/mount -o remount,rw /system” press enter
  13. type “cp /preinstall/su /system/bin/” press enter
  14. type “chmod 6755 /system/bin/su” press enter
  15. type “PATH=/system/bin:$PATH pm install /preinstall/Superuser.apk” press enter
  16. Reboot your phone
  17. Congrats you now have a rooted Atrix running Gingerbread.

Those of you that use this root method for your Atrix running 4.5.141 please let us know any issues you run into.

Motorola Droid 4 One Click Root Available

Only a week after the release of the Motorola Droid 4 Dan Rosenberg has released a one click method to root it. The root method is currently only available for Windows users.

How to Root the Motorola Droid 4:

  1. Download Dan Rosenberg’s Root Files (Download Link)
  2. Make sure your device is in USB Debugging Mode “Settings -> Applications -> Development”
  3. Plug your Droid 4 into a Windows Computer via USB
  4. Run the “run.bat” file from step 1
  5. Follow on screen instructions
  6. Congrats your Droid 4 is now rooted!

Samsung Galaxy Note Root Instructions

Root access for the Samsung Galaxy Note running Android 2.3.5 – 2.3.6 has been achieved before even available in the US. This root method along with others like it come to us thanks to XDA member dr.kretan. Those of you that have been waiting for an easy way to root the Galaxy Note this is it. Be sure to backup anything you don’t want to lose before you root the device in case you need to reset your phone.

Root Instructions for the Samsung Galaxy Note:

  1. Download and extract DooMLorD Rooting Toolkit (Download Link)
  2. Enable USB debugging on your Galaxy Note “Settings -> Applications -> Development”
  3. Connect your Galaxy Note to your PC via USB
  4. Set your phone to “Charge Only Mode” (notification bar)
  5. Open your DooMLorD Root Toolkit folder and run runme.bat
  6. Follow the on screen instructions
  7. Congrats your Samsung Galaxy Note is Rooted!
