ASUS Transformer Prime
Asus has announced that April 16th they will be updating their Transformer Prime with a GPS fix. Many users of the semi-popular Asus Transformer Prime have been complaining about GPS issues that have plagued the device for some time now. The fix is on its way and this time should actually fix all of the issues.

While Asus has tried unsuccessfully to update the software on the Transformer Prime to fix the issue it seems the end result will be a hardware fix instead. From the sounds of it the fix will connect to the device via USB to add the GPS functions expected.

“It needs around two weeks for the shipping after registration online,” Asus said in a statement to AllThingsD. So if everything goes as planned, the company will officially announce its plans on April 16, inviting owners to register for the free kit.

While nobody will be very happy with having to use something external its great to see Asus do something even at this extent to make things as right as they can. Assuming that most people don’t use GPS constantly you will just need to hook up the antenna when in use.

Asus Transformer Prime

Many users of the ASUS Transformer Prime have been experiencing less than good behavior from their high end devices and ASUS has taken note and already pushed out an update to fix the issues. ASUS will be rolling out the update to software version 9.4.2.11 soon to all of the devices. Keep in mind that if your Transformer Prime is rooted you will lose root with this update.

Even thought the update to version 9.4.2.11 will break root access Stacy Bruce over at talkandroid states that it can be easily re-rooted using supercargo’s voodoo. Another note made by Stacy is that the GPS has been updated not only noticeably from a user standpoint but from version 6.8.13 to 6.9.13 along with the camera and faster browsing.

If you haven’t been pushed the update yet you can check manually via “Settings -> About Tablet -> System Firmware Update”. Please let us know if you notice anything that we missed here after updating as there are no change log or notes that we can find available to the public.

ASUS Transformer Prime TF700T

ASUS has announced a new tablet called the Transformer Prime TF700T to be an upgraded Transformer Prime TF201. This new tablet is pretty much the same as the 201 with a few upgrades. The differences that you will notice are the upgraded 2MP front facing camera, new black panel design, and a higher resolution of 1920×1200.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime TF700T Features:

The major reason for the upgraded Transformer Prime is the fact that they needed a way to fix the GPS issues they had with the original 201. The new design allows ASUS to increase the strength of the WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS performance. While we hate to see those that jumped into the Transformer Prime TF201 get left with a partially working device, it is once to see ASUS release a fully working model.

It looks like the 32GB version will retail for around $599, while the 64GB version will increase to $699. The device will be available some time in Q2 and will have an optional keyboard dock for $149.

Let us know what you think about the new device and if you will actually upgrade to it or not. We will keep you informed as we find out more information ourselves.
